[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Net zoals Hydra was het eiland vroeger goed voorzien van drinkwater. Het was reeds bewoond in de oudheid. Het onderhield goede relaties met steden uit de Argolis als Lerne, Thyrins,Argosen Asini in de oude Helenistische en Myceense periode. Een Helenistisch gebouw ( oud en nieuw) dag bij dag opgericht is de kerk Agia Marina, gelegen dicht bij de zee. De vestingen verbeterden de banden met de Cycladen. In de oudheid was de nederzetting dicht bij de zee, nu de haven. Het was een stopplaats op de route van de Cycladen naar\u00a0 de Peloponnesos. Plineos de oude spreekt reeds in de 3de eeuw v.Ch.Over de aanwezigheid van putten op het eiland. Opgravingen hebben sporen van bewoning, in de laat Romeinse en vroeg Byzantijnse periode (5de \u2013 6de eeuw), bloot-gelegd. Het betreft een \u201cRomeinse Sarcofaag\u201d, te zien in het museum en twee oude Byzantijnse basilieken, gevonden in \u201cPalio Limani\u201d (de oude haven). De eerste in een laagte van de golf, de tweede aan de\u201d ruine van de molen van Vrousti\u201d.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]
