[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]De weg van Nafplion naar Epidavros loopt door wijngaarden en olijfplantages. Aan de horizont profileert zich een bergketen, terwijl recht voor U een beetje boven Epidavros de berg Arahneo dezelfde naam die Aeschylus citeert in zijn tragedie Agamemnon.<\/p>\n

Op de flanken van de lager gelegen heuvels ligt het \u201cHeiligdom van Asclepios\u201d en ook het \u201cTheater van Epidavros\u201d (III de eeuw v. Ch.), het meest gekende en bewaard gebleven van de antieke theaters. Het is gebouwd in poreus gesteente en kan aan 12.000 personen plaats bieden.<\/p>\n

In Epidavros hoeft men niet luid te spreken of te roepen want de Accoustiek is er van dergelijke kwaliteit dat men het kleinste geluid tot op de bovenste rijen hoort. In het noorden van het theater bevind zich de ingang tot het Heiligdom. Hier aanbad men vroeger de god \u201cAsclepios die neer ge-bliksemd werd door \u201cZeus\u201d omdat hij de dood wilde overwinnen. Het bestaat nu nog uit enkele grondvesten van : \u201cde Tempel van Asclepios\u201d, de \u201cherberg\u201d, de \u201cTholos\u201d, het \u201c Abaton\u201d, of zuilenhal, de tempels van \u201cArthemis\u201d en \u201cThemis\u201d en het \u201cGymnasium\u201d. De vondsten gedaan in het Asclepion zijn tentoon gesteld in het museum dat zich aan de ingang van de archeologische site bevind.<\/p>\n

Het huidige dorp \u201cPalia Epidavros\u201d ligt in een vlakte met sinaasappelbomen en olijfbomen op de plaats van de Antieke stad Epidavros, begiftigd met een kleine haven, schilderachtige kusten en veel tavernes. Op7 kmten noorden aan de voet van de berg \u201cAkros\u201d komt men het dorp \u201cNea Epidavros\u201d tegen en op enkele km meer naar het noorden het klooster van \u201cAgounda\u201d versierd met Byzantijnse frescos.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_btn title=”Opening Hours & Entrance Fees” style=”flat” shape=”square” color=”info” link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.j-g.gr%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2020%2F02%2FOPENING-HOURS-ENTRANCE-FEES-2019.pdf||target:%20_blank|”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space]
