[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ancient Asine er blevet identificeret med den klippefyldte forbjerg, i dag kaldet Kastraki, ved landsbyen Tolo. Udgravningerne begyndte i 1920 af et fransk hold, men blev fortsat af et svensk team, efter at kronprinsen af Sverige bes\u00f8gte udgravningen. De unders\u00f8gte Akropolis og de dele af de sydlige og \u00f8stlige skr\u00e5ninger af Barbouna Hill p\u00e5 tv\u00e6rs af det. Det blev konstateret, at mennesker havde boet i omr\u00e5det mere eller mindre uafbrudt siden den tidlige bronzealder eller begyndelsen af det tredje \u00e5rtusinde f.Kr.<\/p>\n

Asine fik aldrig den store betydning i Argolida, men byen har ikke desto mindre spillet en vigtig rolle som en godt beskyttet havn, i l\u00f8bet af sin historie. Dens strategiske betydning er meget tydelig p\u00e5 det sted, hvor de, i dag hovedsageligt Hellenske f\u00e6stningsv\u00e6rker, er bevaret. De blev repareret i den osmanniske tid og blev genbrugt af den italienske bes\u00e6ttelsesmagts styrker under Anden Verdenskrig.<\/p>\n
