[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Asklipio af Epidauros er en af disse gamle steder, der har opn\u00e5et universel ber\u00f8mmelse og respekt. Det fungerede som b\u00e5de en religi\u00f8s og politisk centrum af byen. Det antikke Epidauros er en by med forholdsvis lille betydning, der levede i skyggen af magtfulde centre for den tid, som Korinth, Sparta og Athen. Asklipio af Epidauros blev betragtet som f\u00f8destedet for medicin, Medicinen der blev praktiseret, var en kombination af religi\u00f8s overbevisning og en mere praktisk viden. Denne form for medicin kan dateres tilbage til det 6. \u00e5rhundrede f.Kr.. P\u00e5 bakken Kynortio, ved siden af teatret var et fristed skabt \u2013 en us\u00e6dvanlig stor konstruktion for den tid. Det vand, der str\u00f8mmede fra kilderne spillede en afg\u00f8rende rolle i tilbedelses ritualerne. Den katarsis med vand og f\u00e6llesskab blev anset for at sikre et liv i sundhed og lykke.<\/p>\n

Rygtet om Epidauros \u201dfristed\u201d steg gradvist, og ogs\u00e5 antallet af pilgrimme. Dette er grunden til, at helligdommen var n\u00f8dt til at blive overf\u00f8rt, og dette skete i det 6. \u00e5rhundrede, cirka1000 meternordvest for det gamle centrum for tilbedelse I den nye helligdom, begyndte tilbedelse af Apollos langsomt at forsvinde, mens tilbedelse af hans s\u00f8n, Asklipios styrkedes. Den st\u00f8rste betydning havde helligdommen i Epidauros i det 3. og 4. \u00e5rhundrede f.Kr.. P\u00e5 det tidspunkt gav skatter og donationer, at yderligere bygninger og helligdomme blev opf\u00f8rt bland andet: tempel Asklipios, de cykliske Tholos, Avato, Gymnasiumet, Katagogio og det gamle teater var nogle af de vigtigste strukturer og helligdomme. Epidauros\u2019s betydning som kulturel og religi\u00f8st magtcenter fortsatte indtil det officielt blev forbudt at tilbede de gamle guder. Dette skete \u00e5r 426 AD. Udgravninger blev foretaget i slutningen af forrige \u00e5rhundrede af ark\u00e6ologen Panagi Kavvadia. I l\u00f8bet af 1954 -1963 teatret blev restaureret af A. Orlando, af ark\u00e6ologer Labrinoudaki, Parlama og Spathari. Udgravningerne, som startede i 1880 og blev<\/p>\n

afsluttet med restaureringer i det 20. \u00e5rhundrede, afsl\u00f8rede det bedst bevarede, antikke gr\u00e6ske teater, i verden. Det har 55 r\u00e6kker af s\u00e6der \u2013 som er opdelt i 12 etager i den nedre landing og 22 p\u00e5 den \u00f8verste \u2013 med en kapacitet p\u00e5 mere end 20.000 tilskuere.
