[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Det antikke Korinth, den oprindelige by Korinth, blev grundlagt i det 10. \u00e5rhundrede f.Kr. og var den st\u00f8rste by i det antikke Gr\u00e6kenland. Endnu vigtigere, Korinth blev antikke Gr\u00e6kenlands rigeste havn. Korinth var blevet re-grundlagt af Julius C\u00e6sar som en romersk koloni i44 f.Kr.. Brug af Roms afpr\u00f8vede og sande format til at undertrykke erobrede befolkninger, blev den \u201cnye\u201d Korinth befolket med v\u00e6rnepligtige italienske, gr\u00e6ske, syriske, \u00e6gyptiske og jud\u00e6iske frigivne slaver.<\/p>\n

Ligesom oldtidens Korinth, trivedes Ny Korinth. Den strategiske beliggenhed, bragt tusindvis af bos\u00e6ttere til fra hele Middelhavs-omr\u00e5det. Store personlige rigdomme var at finde hos den lokale herskende klasse, der bestod af self-made m\u00e6nd og et overraskende stort antal af self-made kvinder.<\/p>\n

Korinth var kendt som en s\u00e6rligt \u201cvild\u201d by og havde et ry for t\u00f8jlesl\u00f8shed<\/p>\n

Dette rygte var baseret dels p\u00e5 den antikke gr\u00e6ske historiker Strabo rapport, at der var 1.000 hellige prostituerede i templet af Afrodite p\u00e5 Acrocorinth, som var en 1886-fods bakke, der h\u00e6ver sig over byen Korinth mod syd.<\/p>\n

Den rigdom i Korinth hvilede i h\u00f8j grad p\u00e5 kontrol med handelen i det vestlige Middelhav.
