Delphi blev betragtet som verdens centrum. If\u00f8lge mytologien, er det her, at de to \u00f8rne sendt ud af Zeus fra enderne af universet for at finde verdens navle. Helligdommen i Delfi, der der ligger i det mest spektakul\u00e6re landskab, var i mange \u00e5rhundreder det kulturelle og religi\u00f8se centrum og symbolet p\u00e5 enhed for den hellenske verden. Historien om Delphi begynder i forhistorien og i myter om de gamle gr\u00e6kere. I begyndelsen var stedet helligt for Moder Jord og blev bevogtet af den frygtelige Slange Python, der senere blev dr\u00e6bt af Apollo.<\/p>\n

Apollos helligdom blev bygget her af Kretensere der ankom til Kirrha, havnen i Delphi, ledsaget af guden i form af en delfin.
